Dresser

I bought this dresser about 3 or 4 years ago for my son’s bedroom at a thrift store for $30. It was in good condition then, but something that I wouldn’t care if he destroyed because it wasn’t a lot of money. So for the first two years it just sat in my son’s room, when we got him newer furniture that dresser went into my craft area. But I wanted it to look more crafty and fun.

This was the first makeover it received: I stripped it down to the bare wood as much as possible. With it being my first project ever, it didn’t turn out good at all. So it ended up somewhat white with colorful star and heart wood cutouts all over it and I covered the top with flannel squares. It stayed like this for another year and a half.

We recently bought a house and I now have a craft/sewing room and this dress found a home again. This time after doing other smaller projects and a lot of research on some other AMAZING blogs, I learned how to do this correctly. I completely stripped the dresser using orange stuff at Wal-Mart that worked well (I have 2 Yorkies and I’m always worried about chemicals around them).
  • I sanded the whole thing.  First I used a medium 80 grit paper to get off the remaining finish and stubborn spots, then with a fine 120-220 until it was smooth and ready for finishing.
  • I painted it with Valspar primer (2coats) first in white because the last time I painted it without primer it looked bad.
  • Then I used Valspar white high gloss white to finish it with only a little light sanding in between coats (2 coats).
  • After the semi gloss dried completely I painted the drawer front with Valspar satin Betsy Ross House Blue (2 coats).
The last thing I need to do is buy new knobs for the drawers but I haven’t gotten around to it.

Chair

Hello Everyone of the page, So during one of my MANY thrift store crazy weekends I got this chair at my local thrift store for only $1 (I was tempted to but every chair they had), and wasn’t pretty at ALL.

Well my husband’s first reaction was… “Why did you buy that ugly thing? And where do you think your putting it in this house?" I told him to wait and see what it looks like when I’m done, and then if he still thinks its ugly we can throw it out.

It took me way longer then I’d like to admit to get it done, we were moving from our rented house into a house we just bought. But when it was completed he liked it a lot and now uses it for his photo shoots.
  •  First I removed all the cushions
  •  Then stripped and sanded the whole chair
  •  Sanded it with an 80 grit paper to get the remainder of the stripper and left over paint off. Then I  used fine 120-220 grit paper to smooth it all out.
  •  I painted the whole chair with Valspar semi-glossy white paint.
  •  For the cushions I carefully cut off the old fabric and used it as a template for the new fabric

Small Table

Ok, so here goes my first project. I bought a small beat up table from a thrift store for $8.00, I thought that it was really cute and with a some work would look great in my media area of my new house. Here is a picture of the table. I took off all the old tiles, and sanded the table. Then refinished it with PolyStain in Antique Walnut Satin finish and new tiles.

Hello

Hello,

My goal is to blog about things that inspire me to create beautiful things. Most of my projects come from items picked up at thrift stores, sidewalk throw aways, and anything else that I believe I can create, redo or repurpose on a budget. The economy is too crazy to spend hundreds of dollars on brand new furniture, decorations, and clothes.

Thanks
